Faith is a dear friend of mine from college, and I was so excited when she asked me to capture her and her boyfriend Christian during their couples session at Manassas Battlefield National Park. This iconic Virginia spot is the perfect place for photos. The wide open fields, the stunning golden hour light, and those peaceful, quiet corners make it a dream location for couples looking to capture something real.

Getting Started

Since it was Faith and Christian’s first photo session together, we started with some simple, classic poses to help them feel at ease. Once they settled in, we moved to more intimate, close-up shots. There’s something so special about close-ups—they bring out the raw emotion and love between two people.

As the sun started to set, we found the perfect spot where the light peeked through the trees, creating beautiful sun flares. The vibe here was light, carefree, and full of joy. You could feel the energy between Faith and Christian in those moments—it was pure magic.

Prompts over Poses

Next, we moved to a patch of tall grass for some more intimate shots. I wanted these to feel cinematic, like they were the only two people in the world, sharing a quiet moment just for themselves. These photos captured the joy and intimacy they share so perfectly.

One of my favorite prompts is to have the man pick up the woman—it always results in real giggles and genuine smiles. I also love using prompts like “play tag” to get those fun, candid shots that show the couple’s true personality. I love prompts because they let couples be themselves and create authentic moments I can document.

To add variety to the gallery, I like to include over-the-shoulder shots. They help add perspective and tell a deeper story of the couple’s connection.

As the sun dipped lower, we moved to a bench for some cozy, cuddly moments. Faith and Christian were so comfortable with each other and so open to whatever I suggested. Their love was evident in every shot, and I feel so lucky to have captured their connection.
