Taking Sadie & Tate’s surprise engagement photos at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park is such a highlight for me as a photographer. I truly live to document these core memories for my clients. Tate reached out to me to capture his proposal to Sadie, and we worked together to plan the perfect surprise. I’m beyond excited to say that it all came together, and Sadie was absolutely shocked. These are the moments that make me love what I do.

Since Sadie and Tate are from a small town in central Washington, we decided Irene Rinehart Park would be an ideal spot for the proposal. They were looking for a mix of lush greenery and a beautiful river view, and this park had it all. The timing couldn’t have been better—since it was early spring, the park was relatively empty, which made for a private, intimate moment when Tate popped the question.

Sadie had no clue the proposal was coming, and that made it even more special. I started the session with some “grandma poses” (you know, the ones everyone loves to hang on the wall). Then, I told Sadie that Tate was going to sneak up behind her and give her a big bear hug. That was Tate’s cue to pull out the ring and get down on one knee. I then told Sadie we were actually going to start with something else and asked her to turn around. She was so surprised and emotional, with happy tears streaming down her face.

After the proposal, Sadie and Tate changed outfits, and we jumped into some prompted and posed photos. The theme of their photos was “young love,” which couldn’t have been more perfect since they’re high school sweethearts. They love laughter and joy, so we kept it fun and natural—lots of smiles and playfulness instead of stiff poses. We even got creative with some motion blur shots.

One of my favorite spots for surprise engagement photos at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park was by the river. It’s just such a dreamy location, and Sadie and Tate were so adventurous, ready to try anything. They had so many amazing ideas that made the session even more fun. Plus, the park’s riverside path made for the perfect walking shots.

Before we knew it, the session flew by, and we ended with some sweet dancing prompts and snuggles by the river. Irene Rinehart Park is such a gorgeous location for engagement photos, and I’d love to shoot there again, especially in the summer when everything’s in full bloom.
