The goal is to create a look that photographs beautifully while still feeling like you. When everyone feels comfortable and confident in what they’re wearing, it shows in your photos.
Here are a few general tips to keep in mind:
- Stick to neutral or soft tones like creams, tans, soft blues, sage greens, or muted earth tones. These colors photograph timelessly and won’t distract from your connection.
- Avoid large logos, bright neon colors, or busy patterns, as they can pull attention away from your faces and date your photos more quickly.
- Coordinate rather than match—think colors that complement each other instead of everyone wearing the exact same outfit. Layers and texture (like knits, linen, or denim) can add depth without being distracting.
- Choose pieces you feel comfortable and confident in. If you’re constantly adjusting your outfit, it will show in your images.
It can also help to start with one outfit you love (often mom’s dress) and build everyone else’s looks around it. Flowy dresses, movement, and softer fabrics tend to photograph especially well, while structured or stiff clothing can feel a bit more rigid on camera.
Don’t forget about the setting, too. Outfits that complement the location—whether it’s the soft coastal tones of Chambers Bay, the greenery of Point Defiance, or a more urban Tacoma backdrop—can really elevate the overall look of your gallery.
Once you book, I’ll send over a full styling guide with color palettes, outfit examples, and tips for the entire family. I’m also always happy to look over outfit options or help you decide between pieces so you feel completely confident going into your session.
